If you’re swapping snow for sand this December, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained during Christmas in Sri Lanka. From Hikkaduwa to Galle and Talpe to Mirissa, the South Coast is one of the best places to be for a luxury villas holiday.

Christmas in Sri Lanka

Colombo holds the biggest Christmas markets in Sri Lanka, but there are a handful of spots along the South Coast if you plan to escape the busy city during the season. If you’re renting a Villa Galle, the Galle International College holds a great market full of local producers and designers selling their unique items. Keep an eye on beach spots such as Wijaya Beach, as they sometimes hold events in high season where you can find some last minute stocking fillers. Further along the coast in Ahangama, Café Ceylon organises a great market, or visit The Doctor’s House in Madiha to browse a beautiful range of stalls.

Singing Christmas Carols at Why House in Mihiripena is a fun activity for all the family. This stunning boutique hotel opens its doors to everyone on Christmas Eve to come and sing all the festive favourites, getting you in the mood for the big day. You can book a table for dinner, enjoy a few drinks and go to Wijaya beach afterward if you’re looking to carry on the party into the night.

If you’re looking for Christmas catering, Jules Dance and her amazing team at The Fabulous Food Factory can take care of any requests you may have. They offer delicious goodies such as mince pies, Florentines and even Christmas Tree Breadsticks. If you’d prefer to eat out on Christmas day a few of our favourite spots include Skinny Toms and Bedspace in Unawatuna or The Lighthouse Hotel in Galle.
